Drawing on his latest book Het Volk in de Grot (The People in the Cave), Philosopher Laureate of the Netherlands (‘Filosoof des Vaderlands’) Prof. Dr. René ten Bos will guide us across the ever-widening ravine between ‘people’ and ‘elite’. Is this a recent phenomenon, or have societies across the ages faced similar schisms? Why do people become so suspicious of so-called experts and decision-makers? Should we blame them if they refuse to be better informed and decide to ‘stay in the cave’? Expect to be entertained, challenged and enlightened in equal measure!

Bio (also in Dutch below)

Prof. Dr. René ten Bos
Prof. Dr. René ten Bos (58) is Professor of Philosophy at Radboud University in Nijmegen. He is ‘Denker des Vaderlands’, having been elected the Philosopher Laureate of the Netherlands. He has published – in his own words – far too many books for, amongst others, Boom, Routledge, Cambridge University Press and other publishers, in both Dutch and English. He also writes columns for a variety of Dutch newspapers and is known as a critical thinker who tries to relay his contrarian ideas in the most accessible manner.
