Liberation Day concert by World Harmony Orchestra
The Dutch Embassy for the UK and the Dutch Centre would like to invite you to a special concert on Friday the 5th of May at 7 pm in the Dutch Church to commemorate Dutch Liberation Day (Bevrijdingsdag).
The World harmony orchestra (WHO) presents a programme of hope and reflection. On ‘Bevrijdingsdag’ the WHO will perform pieces by composers who have been affected by humanitarian conflicts in the past and present.
The WHO is a professional international orchestra whose members live in London but come from all over the world.
The orchestra plays for peace and raises awareness about important humanitarian causes.
The programme willinclude two Dutch composers who were active in the resistance during the Second World War, Jan van Gilse and Henriette Bosmans.
We will also hear pieces by conscientious objector of war, Benjamin Britten and Moutaz Arian who has had to flee the current war in Syria.
Dutch pianist Cyrill Ibrahim is the co-founder of WHO and will perform piano solo. The Daily Telegraph said of him: ‘One of the most exciting pianists of his generation’.
The WHO will be directed by the founder Romain Malan.
