Dutch Centre in cooperation with De Ruyter Netwerk present the film Michiel de Ruyter and provide a short introduction to one of the biggest sea battles ever.
Michiel de Ruyter is a 2015 Dutch film about the 17th-century admiral Michiel de Ruyter directed by Roel Reine. When the young republic of The Netherlands is attacked by England, France and Germany and the country itself is on the brink of civil war, only one man can lead the county’s strongest weapon, the Dutch fleet: Michiel de Ruyter.
Marja Kingma (Germanic Curator at British Library) will give a short talk about this historical event before the film.
