Just Talk(s) Brave Journalism

The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Dutch Centre are hosting:

Just Talk(s) – Brave Journalism
Tuesday 27 February, from 12:30 – 14:30
at the Dutch Centre

The event is free, but please reserve your ticket in advance below.

Brave journalism is vital for democracy, but online and offline threats against journalists continue to grow, increasing the risk of self-censorship. Join us to discuss recent trends in threats against journalists and what is needed to provide safety solutions for journalists.

How can we counter the normalization of these threats in the sector? And what can the industry, policymakers and the justice system do together to protect journalists?

Join our expert panelists

  • Michelle Stanistreet, General Secretary, National Union of Journalists
  • Peter ter Velde, Project leader, PersVeilig
  • Fiona O’Brien, Bureau Director, UK Reporters Without Borders
  • Caoilfhionn Gallagher KC, Barrister, Doughty Street Chambers

The discussion will be moderated by Fleur Launspach, Dutch NOS correspondent in the UK.

With Just Talk(s) – Brave Journalism, the Embassy looks to facilitate an open dialogue to share perspectives from both the Netherlands and the UK, and beyond, to build new partnerships and learn from each other.

Doors open 12:30, with panel discussion and audience from 13:00 – 14:30. A light lunch is provided.

The event is free, but please reserve your ticket in advance below.

Joelle Steijnis

I'm excited to be part of the Dutch Centre team! I'm an Event Coordinator with a passion for bringing people together through cultural experiences. In my current role at the Dutch Centre, I manage all communication for our cultural events.
This includes creating content for the website, social media, and newsletters, as well as recruiting and training volunteers to help out at the events. As a Sponsorship and Raffle Donations coordinator I'm also actively involved in organizing the annual Dutch King's Day celebration in London. Prior to joining the Dutch Centre, I have over 10 years of experience in event management, marketing, and communications. I've worked with a variety of organizations, from the Netherlands Film Festival to the Nederlandse Reisopera. In all my roles, I've thrived on creating successful events and using communication to connect with audiences.
