Now that both the UK and the Netherlands have a Male Monarch after a long time of female rule we are taking a step back to reflect on three remarkable Royal Women – and one who will step in their shoes in time to come.
In what should be a timely and fascinating discussion, our speakers will explore the reigns of Their Majesties Queen Juliana and Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands and the UK’s Queen Elizabeth II. Did their gender have a particular influence or effect on their reigns? What did these women change? How did they leave their own individual mark? Will their reigns influence the future queen, Crown Princess Amalia of The Netherlands?
Our speakers will include Professor Anna Whitelock (Professor of the History of Monarchy at City, University of London and Director of the Centre for the Study of Modern Monarchy) and Justine Marcella (journalist and Royalty commentator for Dutch TV and radio). The event will be moderated by Anne Saenen, UK correspondent for RTL News.
Many thanks to our Festival sponsor, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, for their generous support of this event.
