No one left a bigger mark on Dutch popular music than composer Harry Bannink (1929-1999), who wrote over 3000 songs during his life. His compositions for tv shows (Ja Zuster, Nee Zuster, Sesamstraat, ’t Schaep met de 5 poten, De film van Ome Willem) and musicals (Heerlijk duurt het langst, Foxtrot) are undoubtedly part of Dutch cultural canon.
In honour of Bannink’s, journalist Gijs Groenteman started “De Grote Harry Bannink Podcast” last year. He spoke to dozens of people who worked with the composer. The podcast became one of the most popular in the Netherlands, and Groenteman will tour various theatres after the summer to talk about Bannink. But first he’ll be in the Dutch centre to talk about the composer and his influence on the Netherlands.
Singers Anouk Scheepens and Jorgen Veninga will perform a number of Bannink classics.
Groenteman will be joined by Sanne Thierens, who received a PhD from the University of Winchester for her research on the musicals Harry Bannink wrote together with Annie M.G. Schmidt. Composer and lyricist Arnoud Breitbarth will host the evening.
