Talk by Simon Kuper on his new book, The Happy TraitorPassed

We are delighted to welcome journalist and author Simon Kuper back to the Dutch Centre. RTL News correspondent Anne Saenen will interview Simon about his recent book, a biography of George Blake, the most notorious double agent in British history. Blake, a dual British-Dutch citizen, was the last major traitor of the Cold War. While a senior officer in Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), he worked as a double agent for the KGB. He is reckoned to have done as much damage to British interests as did his Moscow companions Kim Philby and Donald Maclean.

The Happy Traitor is the work of many years’ writing, research and unparalleled access, but was embargoed until Blake’s death in Moscow in December 2020.

Simon Kuper is a British author and journalist for the Financial Times. He was born in Uganda of South African parents in 1969, and moved to the Netherlands as a child. He studied History and German at the University of Oxford, and attended Harvard University as a Kennedy Scholar. He has written for The Times, The Observer, The Guardian and Le Monde, and also writes regularly for The Spectator and many Dutch newspapers. His previous books include Soccernomics, The Football Men, Football Against the Enemy and Ajax, The Dutch, The War. He lives in Paris with his family.
