How did water shape the Dutch and Dutch society? How does The Netherlands deal with the far reaching consequences of climate change and increasing urbanism? The evening starts with a historic look at The Netherlands and its relationship with water, followed by a discussion on water, the future of The Netherlands and the UK and the impact of climate change. Dutch and British experts will share the viewpoints from the two countries.
ABOUT THE SPEAKERSSunny Jansen, author of the book Rivierenland: Nederland van Aa tot Waal (Riverland, The Netherlands from Aa till Waal). Frans Klijn, Deltares, is a researcher in applied geo-ecology and policy analysis, working in this field since 1980. He has a broad experience in environmentally sound planning, with special emphasis on flood risk management and water (resources) management. He co-ordinated various interdisciplinary teams and has been engaged in many policy analyses for the Netherlands’ government. Jaap Flikweert, is a Dutch water expert. For the last 10 years he has been working at Royal Haskoning DHV UK. In 2013/2014 he was frequently in the news during the big floods in the UK.
