Our Story

The core team of the Dutch Centre consists of Business manager Daphna Plaschkes, PR Officer Jenny Söderström and Finance George …. Daniel Terpstra the Friends Coordinator and Friends Coordinator Pia Rainey.

Daphna Plaschkes

Daphna Plaschkes has been active in the field of arts and culture in the Netherlands and UK since 1993. After the Toneelacademie Maastricht and an MA in Film and Theatre Studies, she worked as a theatre director in many Dutch theatres with children, teenagers and adults. She used her experience as director of the Filmisrael film festival in the Netherlands to set up the first Dutch film festival in the UK, The Low Countries Film Festival, as part of the Dutch Centre programming. Daphna has been involved with the Dutch Centre since 2014 and is passionate about bringing the best arts and culture from the Netherlands to audiences in London and across the UK.

Lauren Harris

Born in East London, Lauren is our "honorary Dutchwoman". Prior to joining the Dutch Centre in 2021, she worked for 20 years for a series of diplomatic mission, including 10 years at the Dutch Embassy in London, latterly as the embassy spokesperson. A self-confessed language geek, Lauren speaks fluent French, Dutch, German and British Sign Language. She is Director of PR consultancy Chancery Communications & Language Services Ltd and is also an emerging literary translator and sign language interpreter in her spare time.

George Rudolph

After several years living in Amsterdam, George Rudolph came to work in London for the Dutch Church in 2002 and has been involved with the Dutch Centre ever since its inception in 2012. He enjoys working at the heart of the Dutch community in London as a way to keep in touch with his Dutch roots.

Pia Rainey

Pia Rainey started her BA in the Arts and Humanities, as a second degree, while bringing up her young family. Upon graduation, she went to work for The Courtauld Institute of Art, London, where she ran the Friends of the Courtauld membership for some twenty years. At the same time, she worked part-time as a volunteer for the Royal Academy of Arts in the education department. She became involved in The Dutch Centre to (re)connect with her Dutch heritage and culture by joining the Programming & Marketing Committee. Pia has always been passionate about the arts and has travelled to many countries across Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia to enjoy in particular architecture, the visual arts and the different cultures and faiths. She is also a keen walker and combines both passions while travelling with family and friends.

Daniël Terpstra

Daniël was born in Broek in Waterland outside Amsterdam and moved to Rye in East Sussex at the age of 14. Since 2014, he has worked for multiple West End theatres. He began working at the Dutch Centre in 2017.
